For the print out, my design is a bird view of the layout of some items on a fishing trip, the background is supposed to be lawn. A bucket filled with water makes "Q", a beer bottle makes "I", a sunglass makes "U", a pair of scissors makes "X", a hook with worm make "U", and finally the fishing line makes "N".
During the tutorial Ms Chiang pointed out that the fishing rod is too small, and the beer bottle looks plastic. I agree with her comments, and I had great difficulties drawing the beer bottle, I was unable to pick the right color, and I should not have used light reflection. Ms Chiang also said that this design does not convey a message or the mood. I realize though I quite like the items, they don't really add up.
Later I came up with the new design above. Using a scoop net for "Q", an umbrella pole for "I", me sitting on a beach chair with a fishing rod as "U". The next thing is to find a suitable picture taken by me as background. This time I used adobe flash to trace a real bottle image to produce the cartoonish bottle, and it looks much better. I'm satisfied with this design because it brings out the casual and relax mood during fishing.

This is the final work. The background is a photo I took in Germany, it can be a little distracting, but it's the most suitable among my photos. Though I wish I have a nice beach photo for the background.
Through this assignment, I learnt that design is more than just creating shapes, it needs to reach out to the audience and convey a message.
